The Facebook-owned messaging app is celebrating big milestone, after announcing that it’s users make 100 million phone calls through the application, every day.
Whatsapp added it’s call services a year ago and in a short period of time, the feature on the application began to rise among the 1 billion users. The activity of the feature allows customers to make calls to friends for free.
The company announced that 1,100 WhatsApp users make a call within the app per second, allowing them to connect with family and friends that might be far away, stated the company’s blog post on Friday.
Before Whatsapp added the feature, it only allowed customers to send voice messages by just tapping the microphone button and holding it for as long as the message lasted, which was celebrated by users.
This feature was first announced at the Mobile World Congress in 2014, yet the app was just teasing voice calling until launching it for Android users on 2015. iOS users were able to enjoy the feature a month after the first launch.
“We’re humbled that so many people have found this feature useful and we’re committed to making it even better in the months to come,” stated the company in the blog post.

On February 19, 2014, the social media giant Facebook acquired the company for a rumored $19.3 billion and began developing new features.
Recent rumors have stated the communications company was holding a beta platform of trials, to experience video-calls among users. Although the rumors have not been confirmed, the trial has been suddenly shut down and users are not sure if they will be able to enjoy the feature.
Whatsapp is constantly innovating as an application. Several other rumors suggest the application will now let users share gifs and memes through the app.
