Yahoo is now supporting Gmail

Yahoo launched its Mail app this past October, which added support for already existing email services like Outlook.com, Hotmail and AOL Mail. However, it didn’t show support for Google’s Gmail.

The features of Yahoo Mail such as powerful search, smart contacts, rich compose features and Yahoo Account Key for password-free sign-in are now available with Gmail. “You can now search across your entire history of emails, from day one, for all connected mailboxes, not just the most recent emails, which is how it’s done in many apps today,” wrote Shiv Shankar, Yahoo senior product manager, in a blog post.

Shankar also explained that multiple mailbox support for Gmail in Yahoo Mail is now available everywhere in the app and on the desktop browser. To connect a user’s Gmail account, they simply need to go into their Account Settings.

Shakar also said in the post that when someone is using the app and composes an email, the user can send it from any account they’re connected to. Additionally, every action, such as moving, deleting and marking emails as read, is synced across all mailboxes.

Other Yahoo Mail features available for Gmail include signing in the mobile app with a Yahoo Account key; easily adding videos and GIFs to emails, as well as searching through all connected mail boxes.

Zeus Kerravala, an analyst with ZK Research, believes that this is a great step for Yahoo and its users. The tech company has been trying to reel in their users for its mail application. He believes that adding Gmail will do so, as it is one of the most used mail platforms for both individuals and businesses alike.

Yahoo briefly stated that they had considered going out of its usual ways during a Chinese retail. However, they later explained that because of tax liability, the board had decided to keep their tracks.

Maynard Webb, head of Yahoo’s board of directors, said that the company is not looking for buyers for their internet business but they are not limited to consider any serious offers.
