The College World Series (CWS) has UC Santa Barbara fans celebrating after their win over the Miami Hurricanes this Monday. The Florida team will be saying goodbye to the Omaha field in Nebraska, and UC fans are thrilled.
The Miami Hurricanes had entered the College World Series as number three and with four titles of the championship. In the sixth inning, the UC Santa Barbara team won the game with a 5-3 result.
The game was played at the TD Ameritrade Park and had a significant effect since it is just the second time in 25 years that the Miami team gets eliminate without winning a single CWS game.
The 62-minute delay in the match, due to the overwhelming rain, gave J.J Muno the ability to end Miami’s pitcher, Danny Garcia. To then give Cumberland the opportunity to pitch, despite the flu he had been facing.
“Throughout the day, I was up and down, so it was a matter of timing. At the time, I felt better than I had before the break. It worked out well,” said Cumberland to the Sun-sentinel in a statement.
Even Though Miami had a closer chance of winning in the eighth inning the Gauchos managed to win the game with Peter Crocitto grounded the game into a double play. The team celebrated their first ever CWS victory.
