California – Google Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL) announced that it will no longer operate without a parent company. Google change their code of conduct “don’t be evil” for a new and improved, released by a holding company named “Alphabet”, where employees are supposed to “do the right thing.”

Google has used the mantra “don’t be evil” for almost ten years, when referring to their own business and employees. However, Alphabet will not carry on with the same line. Apparently the words “do the right thing” are already echoing.

“Employees of Alphabet and its subsidiaries and controlled affiliates should do the right thing – follow the law, act honorably, and treat each other with respect,” the Alphabet Code of Conduct stated.

What does this mean?

From now on, the American multinational technology company, is owned by a holding company named “Alphabet”. In the past, Alphabet used to be subsidiary of Google but with time it executed an opposite assumption of control, and now it has become the new legal boss.

Google as we used to know it, will still exist but sits under an entirely new company, with a different name, website, and ethics policy. The new holding company code of conduct revealed that they have “A rather less pithy set of requirements for its employees, including avoid conflicts of interest, ensure financial integrity and responsibility and obey the law,” according to The Guardian.

“We expect all of our employees and Board members to know and follow this Code of Conduct. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment. Any waivers of this Code for directors or executive officers must be approved by our Board,” Alphabet’s code of conduct stated.

However, YouTube and Android, both companies owned by Google, will still work with the previous code of conduct that have the “don’t be evil” lines. Other companies that are under Alphabet’s domain will run with the new code of conduct.

“If you are employed by a subsidiary or controlled affiliate of Alphabet, please comply with your employer’s code of conduct. If your employer doesn’t have its own code of conduct, if you have a question or concern about this Code or believe that someone may be violating it, or if you want to remain anonymous, you can make a report of a suspected violation or concern through our Helpline,” the code added.
